Further details<\/span><\/p>\nSubmissions consists of a video and an extended abstract. Failure to submit either file will result in an automatic rejection. The required documents are:<\/p>\n
Video<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- Video content should be self-contained and self-explanatory. There will be no live narration or in-person introduction when videos are presented in the session<\/li>\n
- Do not anonymize videos for review. The title and authors’ information should appear at both the beginning and the end of the video.<\/li>\n
- Videos should not exceed 3 minutes in length and 50MB in size.<\/li>\n
- Videos will be presented on a projected screen in the aspect ratio of 16 by 9. Videos should have the aspect ratio correctly set (i.e. playing them should not require user interaction to avoid stretching). Please use a horizontal resolution of at least 640 pixels. We recommend that you use the maximum resolution permitted within the file size restrictions (please do not exceed 2048 × 1080).<\/li>\n
- Video content is required to have captions to increase accessibility.<\/li>\n
- Where spoken text is needed, human voice-overs by native speakers are preferred, but text-to-speech is better than no voice overs. Avoid monotonous voice-overs.<\/li>\n
- Video content should not contain advertisements or be heavily promotional in nature.<\/li>\n
- Submission files that are finalized need to be ready to be played “as-is”, without revision at the conference.<\/li>\n
- ACM requires video authors to sign a release granting permission to use the video content for the Auto-UI conference. Copyright of the video remains with the author. Video authors are responsible for obtaining permission for any third party copyrighted material (music, video, images, etc.) in the video. Such content should not be included unless permission has been obtained prior to submission.<\/li>\n
- Video format details:\n
\n- Recommended: .MP4 (H.264 video codec, AAC audio codec)<\/li>\n
- Other formats (.AVI, .MOV, .WMV, .MKV) will also be considered<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
- Authors should verify that their submission is viewable using a recent version of VLC media player (cross-platform). Ideally, the submitted file will play on computers with recent Linux, OSX, or Windows operating systems without requiring third party codecs to be installed.<\/li>\n
- Check that audio and video tracks play synchronously, if relevant for the submission.<\/li>\n
- Do not use Digital Rights Management (DRM) on your video file submission.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
\nExtended Abstract<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- A 2-4 page extended abstract prepared in the ACM SIGCHI Extended Abstracts format. As part of this 2-4 page document should be an abstract with a maximum of 150 words.<\/li>\n
- The extended abstract should be submitted as a PDF file.<\/li>\n
- Any submission longer than 4 pages (not counting references) and\/or not adhering to the Extended Abstracts Format will be automatically desk-rejected.<\/li>\n
- Your extended abstract should be close to camera-ready.<\/li>\n
- The submissions should not<\/em> be anonymised for reviews<\/li>\n
- Submissions must be in well written English. Note: If your English writing skills are not very good, we recommend to ask a professional editor to edit your manuscript before submission.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Curated content is highly selective but does not necessarily follow a reviewing process by a committee. Curated content may be selected from submissions or invited by the track chairs. Authors should not expect to receive formal feedback on their submission other than the selection decision.<\/p>\n
Videos will be curated by the Videos Chairs (and possibly a small group of curators), according to two main criteria:<\/p>\n
\n- Content: Is the material interesting to Auto-UI researchers and professionals? The topic of the video is ultimately up to the authors, but some approaches that have worked well in other conferences and in Auto-UI include the following: presentations of research systems, visions of the future, humorous parodies or thoughtful critiques of Auto-UI, and reports on ethnographic work and user studies. A video’s content evaluation depends on how directly it addresses issues of relevance to Auto-UI, and whether its message is interesting and engaging.<\/li>\n
- Presentation: Is the video edited well? Does it make appropriate use of pacing, music, and special effects? Does it drag on, or will it hold an audience’s attention? Because the video program is a live screening, we strongly encourage creative editing of your videos. The tight time limit is imposed to keep videos short and punchy. In addition to effective pacing, your video should include appropriate music or soundtrack. Your idea may be brilliant, but if you can’t convey it in an engaging way, it will not make a good live video piece.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Original video submissions will be prioritized, but videos that have been published or released previously will also be given consideration. If a video has been published or released previously, please make clear in your submission any prior exposure your video has received.<\/p>\n
Submissions should not contain sensitive, private, or proprietary information that cannot be disclosed at publication time. Submissions should NOT be anonymous. However, confidentiality of submissions will be maintained during the review process. All rejected submissions will be kept confidential in perpetuity. All submitted materials for accepted submissions will be kept confidential until the start of the conference, with the exception of title and author information which may be published on the website prior to the conference.<\/p>\n
Authors of accepted submissions will receive instructions on how to prepare and submit the publication-ready version, and details on the video presentation and scheduling at the conference.<\/p>\n
\n- Upon acceptance, you will receive a digital copyright form, which you are required to complete. Please note that you cannot change the title of your extended abstract after you submit the copyright form.<\/li>\n
- Once the copyright form is completed, we will provide you with the copyright information you must insert into your extended abstract.<\/li>\n
- The final camera-ready version needs to be submitted via the Precision Submission System. The submission includes, and is not complete without, giving us permission to distribute your final camera-ready version as described above.<\/li>\n
- We might also request modifications for the video, if it does not follow the instructions.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
A member of the program committee and the publication chairs will check that the final versions meet the requirements for publication and if so, will finalize the acceptance. Authors are encouraged to submit their revisions earlier than the deadline, in case it is judged that the video and extended abstract do not meet the committee requirements. If the authors are unable to meet these requirements by the deadline, the videos chairs will be notified and may be required to remove the extended abstract and video from the program.<\/p>\n
Upon acceptance, at least one author must register for the conference by the early registration deadline in order for the video and extended abstract to be published.<\/p>\n
Authors are expected to attend the conference but are not required to present their work on stage. Rather, a time and location will be assigned to the video session and the video will be showcased in a previously communicated slot.<\/p>\n
Video submissions whose authors are not at the conference may be withdrawn from the Adjunct Proceedings and the Digital Library.<\/p>\n
Accepted videos and extended abstracts will be made available in the Auto-UI Adjunct Proceedings, distributed by the conference (e.g., through USB sticks and on the conference website) and will secure publication in the ACM Digital Library, where they will remain accessible to researchers and practitioners worldwide.<\/p>\n
