AutoUI'20 virtual conference

Dear AutomotiveUI Community:

The COVID-19 pandemic has created unprecedented challenges and disruptions in our daily lives. After much thought and careful consideration, the AutomotiveUI Steering Committee has made the difficult recommendation to hold the AutomotiveUI 2020 conference as a virtual event instead of an in-person meeting in Washington, DC, USA. I will continue the role of general chair for AutomotiveUI 2020 and the majority of 2020 organizing team are also committed to support this virtual conference. Our goal is to deliver an informative and interactive AutomotiveUI 2020 virtual meeting to all participants.

The organizing team held an online meeting on April 9 to begin plan for the virtual conference. More details will be announced on our website and social media channels toward the end of April. Below are the high-level directions regarding the virtual AutomotiveUI 2020 conference:

  • Planned conference dates are Monday, September 21 and Tuesday, September 22
  • Conference program will be modified with formats that are suitable and effective for online meeting
  • New submission deadlines and instructions will be provided (note: for authors who have already submitted full papers, the organizing team will reach out to you with additional information)
  • New registration rates will be announced
  • Several pages on the current AutomotiveUI 2020 website will be temporarily disabled for content updates

It is our sincere hope that many of you will still support AutomotiveUI 2020 by submitting your work to this virtual conference. We are acquiring vendor information for virtual conference services to help us deliver an one of a kind AutomotiveUI meeting experience.

On behalf of the AutomotiveUI 2020 Organizing Team, we wish you good health and positive spirit,

C. Y. David Yang, Ph.D. General Chair, AutomotiveUI 2020

Welcome to AutoUi'20

AutomotiveUI (AutoUI), the International ACM Conference on Automotive User Interfaces and Interactive Vehicular Applications, is the premier forum for user interface research in the automotive domain. Each year, the conference brings together a delegation of international researchers and practitioners interested in both the technical and the human aspects of in-vehicle user interfaces and applications, to exchange technical information concerning research (and practice) and educational activities for motor vehicle user interface development. The conference has multiple tracks and activities to engage researchers, practitioners, and other interested parties. We look forward to welcome you at AutoUI 2020!

The main language of our conference is English, and you will soon find detailed English descriptions of the various tracks in our “Call for papers”. Each track is either peer-reviewed, or juried. This is always done by expert researchers from the international and interdisciplinary Auto-UI community, and coordinated by specific co-chairs in liaison with the Technical Program Chairs and General Chairs.

The proceedings of our conference are published by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the world's largest educational and scientific computing society, in their digital library.

If you are active in the Auto-UI domain, for example of researcher, designer, or practitioner, yet new to the conference, we want to suggest the following submission categories  as suitable to get to know and engage with the Auto-UI community:

  • Work-in-progress: A session where your most recent research is presented to allow for fruitful discussions with peers. Our community can give you feedback at the conference on this work.
  • Workshops: the ideal place to get together with a group of experts to discuss an automotive topic that you care about in detail. Past experience showed that workshops benefit when organizers from different countries are involved. Our workshop chairs are happy to help connect you.
  • Doctoral Colloquium: If you are a PhD student who wants to engage with the Auto-UI community, but perhaps has limited opportunities to do so at your own university, this is a perfect platform.
