Auto UI 2014 Local Info / About the Venue

Motif The conference venue and designated hotel for overnight guests is the Motif Seattle in the heart of downtown Seattle. 
** NOTE: Deadline is August 17 to get discounted rate for guest rooms. Please also ask about per diem rates if you are employed by a government entity. **
Conference registrants who book before the hotel deadline can receive a significant discount on guest room rates ($189/single or double occupancy/$209 for triple occupancy, before taxes) if booking in our reserved block. These rates are offered for 3 days prior and 3 days after the meeting dates if requested, subject to availability at time of reservation.

A car is not necessary for guests staying downtown. However, for people who arrive with a car, the Motif Hotel is providing hotel guests a discounted rate of $20 per day use parking and $25 for overnight parking per 24 hour period. Auto UI participants will find that downtown Seattle is easily walkable and waiting to be explored. A wide variety of restaurants, a thriving retail shopping district, world-class cultural institutions, and many visitor attractions are within an easy walk of the venue.

Room Reservation Procedures

Motif Guests can make their lodging reservation requests either online or by phone.

If you prefer to book by phone, call 1-855-515-1144 and reference the "Auto UI Conference" to be sure to have appropriate discounts apply. Please mention to the reservationist if you also plan to be a participant in the UBI conference, and ask that they make a separate reservation for this conference so that our room block is correctly credited.

Directions to Hotel/Conference Venue

  • From Seattle Tacoma (Sea-Tac) International Airport – Follow the signs "To Freeways." Travel northbound on I-5 to downtown Seattle. Take Seneca Street Exit. Turn right on 4th Avenue. Take the first right onto Pike Street. Turn right on 5th Avenue. Our hotel is a one-half block on the right.
  • From I-90 West – From I-90 West take the I-5 North exit. From I-5 North take the Madison Street exit and stay in the left hand lane. Take a left onto Madison Street. Go two blocks West on Madison Street and turn right onto 4th Avenue. Go 5 blocks North on 4th Avenue then turn right onto Pike Street. From Pike Street make the next right onto 5th Avenue and the hotel garage and main entrance is on the right hand side of street.
  • From I-5 South – From I-5 North take the Union Street exit. Turn right onto 4th Avenue and 1 block then turn right onto Pike Street. Once on Pike Street go one block and turn right onto 5th Avenue. The hotel garage and main entrance is on the right hand side of street.

Note: Workshops on Sept 17 will take place at the University of Washington campus which is about 15 minutes by car (or 20-30 minutes by bus) from downtown Seattle. We will provide campus maps and directions to workshop registrants closer to the date.

Local Transportation Options

Space Needle Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (Sea-Tac) is located approximately 20 miles south of the University of Washington and 15 miles south of Downtown Seattle. Below are some of the options that will easily get you to the University District and campus.

Workshop Shuttles

Chartered bus transportation will be provided to workshop registrants between the conference venue, Motif Seattle and the University of Washington (UW) campus, where all workshops will take place.

Please note CHARTERED BUS SHUTTLE SCHEDULE (Wednesday only):
Buses depart starting 7:30 AM from Motif Seattle (1415 Fifth Ave., Seattle, WA) to UW, stopping on George Washington Lane, near Red Square. Meet in the main lobby and board buses outside of front door, on 5th Ave. A volunteer from UW will be there to assist.

At least one shuttle will depart from UW to return participants to Motif Seattle between 12:30 and 1:30 PM, while another bus will pick up afternoon-only workshop attendees departing Motif at Noon, to be at UW by 12:30 PM. (Workshops start or resume at 1:30 PM.)

Local maps, bus info and shuttle assistance will be available in Mary Gates Commons. Check with onsite logistics coordinator at the lunch break for updates.

The final shuttles leave UW campus (using same boarding and drop-off area on George Washington Lane) at 4:30 PM, with trips provided as needed back to the conference venue. Trip time each way is 25 - 30 minutes, depending on traffic.

METRO

If you wish to take public transportation, there are METRO buses that run regularly between downtown and the University District. See Routes 70, 71, 72, 73, 74 & 75 on the Trip Planner website for specific stops and schedules.

Light Rail – Public Transportation to downtown Seattle

Trains depart every 7-15 minutes toward downtown Seattle. The trip from the airport to downtown Seattle takes about 35 minutes.

Motif Front Door FARE: Central Link light rail fares are based on distance traveled. Adult fares range from $2 to $2.75 (furthest one way trip)

Buy a ticket from a ticket vending machine at the station and embark at the Sea-Tac Station, disembark at Westlake Station (which is the last stop - you can go no further on this Central Line). From the Westlake Bays C & D area, take elevator or escalator to 5th Ave. and Pine; turn NE, then walk south on 5th Ave for 2 blocks. The Motif Seattle Hotel will be on your right, between Pike St. and Union St. Address: 1415 Fifth Ave., Seattle (98101).

Shuttle Express

Shuttle Express offers frequent operation between the airport and any Seattle destination you request. It is suggested for easy and direct transportation from the airport to the campus, dorms or hotels in the University District. You can reserve trips by calling (425) 981-7000 or you may also make your reservations online at http://www.shuttleexpress.com/webpages/reservations.html

Advance reservations are required for a return trip to the airport 24 hours ahead of your desired pick up time. It is possible to book a round trip when you call for your first ride.

To find Shuttle Express at the airport: After you have collected your luggage, follow signs directing you to Ground Transportation which is located on the third floor of parking garage. To get to the garage, you must proceed up one floor from baggage claim level via escalator or elevator and walk across the sky bridge. Once in the airport garage, take an escalator or elevator back down to 3rd floor. You will find the booth alongside the Sea-Tac Ground Transportation Information Center.

Taxi

All Seattle taxi cabs operate at the same rate, set by King County. The meter drop is $2.50 plus $2.00 per mile. Extra person charges may apply. A ride from the airport to the University District will be $45-$55.
